Kicking Off This Season of Gratitude!

As we’re in the seasons of pumpkins, scarves and cinnamon-scented everything (my favorite time of year) I always find myself reflecting on everything I’m so grateful for in my life and business.

Maybe it’s the energy of the season of Harvest or the warm Thanksgiving vibes. You’ve probably heard or seen the word ‘gratitude’ a lot recently in your favorite magazines, blogs and TV shows and social feeds… There’s a whole lot of science that points to the act of gratitude being good for us humans. (Ever wonder if it’s the same for our pets?)

Basically, the data shows that when we have a ‘practice’ (a regular habit) of expressing gratitude - we are likely to be more happy and less depressed… even if our mental health is already suffering.

Practicing gratitude actually changes our brain! Here are some fascinating gratitude facts:

  1. It’s good for brain, body, relationships and mood:

Simple practices like maintaining a gratitude journal (which research has shown to reduce stress, improve sleep quality and build emotional awareness), complimenting the self, or sending small tokens and thank you notes can make us feel a lot better and enhance our mood immediately. I personally love keeping a little journal with testimonials my clients have shared with me whenever I need a little mood booster.

  2. It takes time, but the effects are long-lasting:
With shorter days, less sun, and the cold weather right around the corner, mental health is definitely a subject of conversation this time of year. Individuals in a gratitude group reported better mental health than the others four weeks after the writing activities, and this difference in mental health became even larger 12 weeks after the writing activities.

One of the things I am the most grateful for every day is the ability and privilege to do this job. Working with animals is a life-long dream. Growing up, I was not allowed to have a dog because my mom was allergic so I feel like my LOVE for dogs has been bottled up for 20 years until I got my first dog. I knew at that moment that animals, dogs specifically, have unconditional love for their human and that this special bond needs to be captured and showcased. But, alongside being a business owners, I am a mom of an almost 15-month old child. Life can keep me so busy that expressing my gratitude for everything and to everyone I’d like to can sometimes get overlooked.

So, I wanted to take this opportunity - in this season of thanks - to share a few things I’m most thankful for right now.

  1. My wife:
I want you to know how deeply I appreciate you. Your love and support mean everything to me. You are my rock, my love, and my best friend. Thank you for making our life together so beautiful❤️

  2. My son:
Your laughter and hugs fill my days with so much joy. You are the light of my life, and I'm thankful for every moment with you🥰 Thank you for choosing me to be your Mama and making my dream of motherhood a reality.

  3. My business:
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your trust and support. Without you, my photography business wouldn't be possible📸 Your trust in my work means the world to me, and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to capture your special moments and help you decorate your home with artwork of your pets.

  4. My fur-babies:
I am grateful every day for my two furry companions, Marley and Loki. Marley, my amazing assistance dog, you've changed my life in ways words can't express. And Loki, your boundless energy and love light up our home. Thank you for being my loyal friends and constant source of happiness🐶

I’d love to know what’s got you feeling #blessed too
